Assam Rifles Champions Girl Child Empowerment and Lights Up Remote Manipur Villages
From the bustling valley of Imphal to the farthest hill villages of Chandel and Tengnoupal, Assam Rifles marked the International Day of the Girl Child 2025 with a series of vibrant outreach and empowerment programmes under the theme “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead.”
At Vocational Guide School, Sangaithel in Imphal West, the force organised an interactive session titled “Empowering the Girl Child,” where 50 students and six teachers engaged in discussions on women’s role in society, the importance of education, and the need to fight gender-based discrimination. Students also took a pledge to uphold gender equality and were provided notebooks and stationery to support their education.

Celebrations extended across multiple villages with awareness sessions on education, equality, and empowerment, alongside creative poster campaigns, games, and cultural performances. A spirited women’s volleyball match became the highlight of the day, symbolising teamwork, confidence, and determination.
In Bongjang village of Tengnoupal District, an awareness programme attended by 50 girls encouraged participants to pursue education, health, and gender equality, inspiring them to become change-makers in their communities.
Through these activities, Assam Rifles reaffirmed its commitment to not only ensuring security but also fostering inclusion, awareness, and development in both the hill and valley regions of Manipur.
Bringing Light to Lives- Assam Rifles Illuminates Sajik Tampak
Meanwhile, in a separate initiative under Operation Sadbhavana, Assam Rifles collaborated with Sunbird Trust Foundation and HDFC Bank’s Parivartan Yojana to distribute 74 solar ball lamps to residents of Khulien Khalet village in Sajik Tampak, Chandel District.
The project, part of the CSR campaign “Bringing Light to Communities,” provided renewable energy solutions to a region still struggling with power shortages. The solar lamps are expected to enhance safety, enable children to study after dusk, and improve the quality of life for families in the area.

Residents expressed heartfelt gratitude, sharing how the initiative brought light, hope, and a renewed sense of connection. The collaboration between Assam Rifles, Sunbird Trust, and HDFC Bank stands as a testament to how compassion and purposeful action can illuminate even the remotest corners of society.
In villages where night once meant darkness and silence, a new light now shines — symbolising progress, opportunity, and the promise of a brighter tomorrow.
