Centre to Cap Imphal Airfare at ₹7,000; Two New Flights to Be Added
Following widespread public concern over the sharp rise in airfares to and from Imphal Airport, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has decided to cap the maximum airfare at around ₹7,000.
Former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh shared on Facebook that the decision came after Khurai MLA Leishangthem Susindro Meitei met the Secretary of Civil Aviation in Delhi on November 3 to discuss the issue of high airfares and limited connectivity.
Biren stated that senior officials from the Ministry informed him that two new flights will be introduced soon — one each on the Imphal–Guwahati and Imphal–Kolkata routes — to ease the travel burden on passengers.
Earlier, MLA Susindro had submitted a formal letter to the Ministry urging immediate intervention to address the escalating airfares and to increase flight frequency. He also highlighted that the limited number of flights had led to skyrocketing prices, causing major inconvenience to the public.
The issue had drawn strong reactions from citizens and civil society groups across Manipur, who have been calling for urgent government measures to make air travel more accessible and affordable.
