Congress Leaders Meet Manipur Delegation, Call for Urgent Political Solution
New Delhi, June 5, 2025: Congress president and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, along with Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi, held a meeting on Thursday with party leaders from Manipur to assess the ongoing situation in the violence-hit state.
The meeting took place at the new AICC headquarters in Indira Bhavan, Delhi, and was also attended by Congress general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal. He emphasized the urgent need for a political solution to restore peace and normalcy in the region.
Congress in-charge for Manipur Saptagiri Ulaka, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Keisham Meghachandra Singh, and other senior leaders from the state were present during the deliberations.
“Manipur has been under the grip of a devastating civil war for the last two years. It requires a political solution to bring back normalcy at the earliest,” Venugopal said in a post on social media platform X.
The Congress party has consistently urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Manipur and extend support to the people affected by the violence. Since May 2023, ethnic clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities have resulted in the deaths of over 200 individuals and widespread displacement.
