Dr. Bimol Raises Concerns in Lok Sabha Over Delay in VC Appointment and Infrastructure at National Sports University, Manipur
New Delhi | March 25, 2025: The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has confirmed that the National Sports University (NSU) in Imphal, Manipur is yet to appoint a regular Vice-Chancellor. Responding to an unstarred question (No. 3773) raised by Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya stated that the university is currently being managed by an officiating Vice-Chancellor, with the process to appoint a regular VC underway.
A Search-Cum-Selection Committee has been constituted by the Central Government to shortlist and recommend candidates for the Vice-Chancellor post. Applications have already been received by the Ministry.
On the infrastructure front, the university’s development stands at 83.50% as of February 2025. However, the initial deadline of December 25, 2024, has been extended to November 16, 2025, due to delays attributed to recent disturbances in the state of Manipur.
Regarding faculty recruitment, the Minister informed that the sanctioned strength includes 1 Professor, 2 Associate Professors, and 8 Assistant Professors. Currently, all Assistant Professor posts and the lone Professor post are filled, while only 1 of the 2 Associate Professor positions has been recruited.
