A significant step towards inclusive environmental policy-making was taken with the successful hosting of the \u201cStudents and Youth Consultation for the Revision of the Manipur State Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (SBSAP)\u201d at the Dhanamanjuri Platinum Jubilee Hall, Dhanamanjuri University, Imphal.<\/p>\n

Organized by the Foundation for Ecological Security (FES) in collaboration with the Department of Zoology, Dhanamanjuri University and the Manipur Biodiversity Board, the consultation is part of the Indo-German Bilateral Cooperation Project, \u201cProtection and Sustainable Management of Aquatic Resources in the North-Eastern Himalayan Region of India\u201d (NERAQ). The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) through the International Climate Initiative (IKI).<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The workshop witnessed the active participation of over 75 students and youth representatives from 26 colleges and universities across the state. The participants engaged in interactive sessions to identify key biodiversity challenges and propose strategies that align with national and global biodiversity conservation goals. Discussions revolved around the adoption of research-based approaches and technological innovations to promote grassroots-level implementation of the SBSAP.<\/p>\n

Eminent figures who graced the inaugural session included Prof. M. Bhubaneshori Devi, Principal of DMC Science; Prof. L. Hemchandra Singh, Dean of the School of Life Sciences, DMU; Dr. Soibam Rebika, Assistant Conservator of Forests, Government of Manipur; and Prof. I. Linthoingambi Devi, Head of the Department of Zoology, DMU. Each emphasized the pivotal role of youth in driving biodiversity conservation and shaping policy frameworks.<\/p>\n

Participants voiced the urgent need for institutional support, digital advocacy platforms, and innovation-driven conservation models. The youth expressed strong commitment towards championing biodiversity issues and called for sustained engagement in shaping Manipur\u2019s ecological future.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The event reaffirmed that empowering youth in environmental decision-making can significantly strengthen sustainable biodiversity management in the region.<\/p>\n
