The Forest Department, Government of Manipur, commemorated International Day of Forests 2025 with a vibrant celebration at the Imperial Hall, Classic Grande, Chingmeirong, Imphal. This year\u2019s theme, \u201cCelebrating Forests and Foods,\u201d highlighted the integral link between forests, food security, and sustainable development.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Graced by key dignitaries including Shri Anurag Bajpai, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & HoFF and Additional Chief Secretary (Textiles, Commerce & Industries and TA & Hills), Shri Arun Kumar Sinha, Principal Secretary (Forest, Environment & Climate Change), and Smt. Soreiphy Vashum, Additional PCCF (Administration & Planning), the event underscored the government\u2019s commitment to green growth and environmental conservation.<\/p>\n

The program commenced with a symbolic watering of the Heirengoi plant, reflecting the dedication towards nurturing nature and preserving forest ecosystems. In his welcome address, Shri R. K. Amarjit Singh, Conservator of Forests, Central Circle and Special Secretary, highlighted the essential role of local communities and Joint Forest Management Committees (JFMCs) in forest conservation.<\/p>\n

A well-curated exhibition showcased forest-based products and initiatives from across all districts of Manipur, with active participation from Van Dhan Vikas Kendra (VDVK) members who presented their locally-developed forest products. The exhibition offered a tangible perspective on how forests contribute to food systems and rural livelihoods.<\/p>\n

Delivering the keynote address, Shri Anurag Bajpai stressed the importance of forests in maintaining biodiversity, supporting food chains, and providing raw materials. He encouraged citizens to acknowledge their responsibility in preserving forests for future generations.<\/p>\n

In a follow-up address, Shri Arun Kumar Sinha spoke on the pressing challenges posed by climate change and rising temperatures, emphasizing the need to tap into the economic potential of VDVK products for sustainable livelihoods.<\/p>\n

A short film on VDVKs further illustrated how forest-based enterprises have empowered local communities, particularly in improving economic conditions through sustainable resource use.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n
\u201cEmployment Opportunities in Forests\u201d by Smt. Debala Leiphrakpam, CF\/Eastern Circle and Chairman, FDA (Kamjong\/Tengnoupal\/Chandel).<\/p>\n

In the vote of thanks, Shri Vikram Suresh Nadhe, IFS, DFO\/Central Forest Division, appreciated the enthusiastic participation of stakeholders, JFMC members, academicians, VDVK members, and environmental groups, making the event a great success.<\/p>\n
