Despite claims from both the BJP and Congress that peace and normalcy have returned to Manipur, the Meitei Resurgence Forum (MReF) asserts that the state’s journey toward genuine peace remains incomplete.<\/p>\n

At a recent press meet, MReF General Secretary Oinam Doren pointed out that while the frequency of gunfights has decreased, this lull began even before the imposition of President’s Rule, challenging the narrative that the current administration is solely responsible for the improvement in the security situation.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Doren emphasized the importance of assessing ground realities across all hill regions in Manipur to determine whether peace has truly returned. \u201cVisiting only the valley is not enough. A comprehensive understanding can only come from engaging with communities in the hill districts,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He also flagged ongoing administrative loopholes that are obstructing a full return to normalcy. According to MReF, despite efforts by the state, challenges in governance and infrastructure continue to hinder the peace process.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
In a positive development, the Governor has launched a weapon collection initiative. Oinam Doren noted that the majority of surrendered weapons have so far come from the valley, suggesting an imbalance in disarmament efforts.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
MReF acknowledged that while steps are being taken in the right direction, including the Governor\u2019s initiative, sustained efforts are needed to bridge the valley-hill divide, streamline administration, and ensure fair implementation of peace-building measures across all regions.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cManipur\u2019s path to peace is still a work in progress,\u201d concluded Doren.<\/p>\n
