Sugnu, April 8 \u2013 In a remarkable demonstration of humanitarian commitment and peace-building efforts, Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters IGAR (South), organized a significant event in Sugnu, Kakching District on April 8, 2025.<\/p>\n
The highlight of the event was the ceremonial return of six vehicles\u2014three JCBs, one truck, and two two-wheelers\u2014that had been abandoned during the ethnic unrest in May-June 2023. These vehicles were left behind by civilians during emergency evacuations conducted by Assam Rifles in the Chandel District amidst intensifying violence. Despite the initial lack of ownership details, the security force safeguarded the vehicles and initiated efforts to trace the rightful owners.<\/p>\n
By January 2024, a few individuals came forward claiming ownership, but the vehicles remained unserviceable, and movement across the region was unsafe. Over the next year, Assam Rifles painstakingly verified ownership, repaired the vehicles, and ensured their safe return to the owners, showcasing unwavering dedication amidst challenging circumstances.<\/p>\n
The event was attended by the DIG of Assam Rifles in Kakching, along with senior officials from the Deputy Commissioners’ and Superintendents of Police offices from both Kakching and Chandel Districts. Around 300 local residents and civil society members also participated, reflecting strong community support and cooperation.<\/p>\n
Marking World Health Day, Assam Rifles also organized a Health Awareness Camp under the theme \u201cHealth and Care.\u201d Medical experts from five departments\u2014Ophthalmology (in partnership with Medilane), ENT, Gynecology, Orthopedics, and Pediatrics\u2014from Thoubal District Hospital, along with Assam Rifles\u2019 Medical Officers, provided health check-ups, consultations, and free medicines to around 480 individuals.<\/p>\n
This initiative exemplifies Assam Rifles\u2019 enduring role not just as a security force, but as a compassionate partner in the socio-humanitarian development of Manipur and the Northeast.
