Imphal, May 21, 2025 \u2014 The All Manipur United Clubs\u2019 Organisation (AMUCO) has strongly condemned the action of the 4th Mahar Regiment security personnel, who allegedly erased the name “Manipur” from a state transport bus ferrying a media team to the Shirui Lily Festival 2025. The incident has sparked widespread protests and backlash across the state.<\/p>\n
AMUCO President Pheiroijam Nando Luwang criticized the act as a direct assault on the identity and constitutional rights of Manipur, calling it unacceptable and deeply disrespectful to the state’s history and culture. The organisation questioned the silence and role of Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Security Advisor Kuldeep Singh amidst the rising tensions.<\/p>\n
In a statement, Nando demanded that the Governor either resign or take immediate action against the personnel involved. He stated that the Governor’s presence in the state is questionable if even the use of the word \u201cManipur\u201d is restricted under his watch.<\/p>\n
The incident has prompted protests under the banner “Do Not Obliterate Manipur,” with civil society organisations including the All Manipur Women\u2019s Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibis Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM), Committee on Human Rights (COHR), and the Manipuri Students\u2019 Federation (MSF) joining the rally.<\/p>\n
Protesters, including students, local clubs, and community members, raised slogans condemning the alleged erasure and demanded accountability from the authorities. The rally signified the collective resolve of the people of Manipur to oppose any attempts to undermine their identity.<\/p>\n
Civil groups have stated that they will continue to press for action and justice, urging the state administration to respond promptly to the demands and address the growing concerns of the public, particularly those of internally displaced persons and communities affected by the ongoing crisis.<\/p>\n
