{"id":4249,"date":"2025-10-10T22:34:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-10T17:04:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ichelnewsnetwork.com\/?p=4249"},"modified":"2026-01-19T05:18:36","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T05:18:36","slug":"awareness-programme-on-human-trafficking-conducted-in-jiribam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ichelnewsnetwork.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/10\/awareness-programme-on-human-trafficking-conducted-in-jiribam\/","title":{"rendered":"Awareness Programme on Human Trafficking Conducted in Jiribam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a significant effort to combat human trafficking, the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSWC), under the sponsorship of the National Commission for Women, in collaboration with the District Administration, Jiribam, organized a one-day awareness programme on &#8220;Anti-Human Trafficking&#8221; at the Jiribam Municipal Council Auditorium, Babupara, Jiribam on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Smt. Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson (MSCW), Smt. Lourembam Dayabati Devi, Member (MSCW), Smt. T. Chuongsin Koireng, Member (MSCW), and Smt. SK Sophia Moyon, Member (MSCW). Krishna Kumar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Jiribam, and Additional Superintendent of Police, Jiribam Th. Karnajit Singh, MPS, also participated as presidium members.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the event Deputy Commissioner, Jiribam Krishna Kumar, IAS, highlighted the importance of combating human trafficking, emphasizing that awareness is key to preventing this menace. He stressed the need for combined efforts from various stakeholders, including central and state governments and district authorities, to fight human trafficking.<\/p>\n<p>Appreciating the role of Women commission he remarked that the efforts taken by the commission are appreciated in different platforms to avoid various incidents related to human trafficking.<\/p>\n<p>He further stressed the need for coordination, cooperation with multi- dimensional approach to deal with trafficking.<\/p>\n<p>He also highlighted that Ministry of Women and Child development also plays crucial role not only in this regard but also played great role in Women empowerment.<\/p>\n<p>He also lauded the women officers of Jiribam district who has been posted in the district resemble the empowerment of women where many people are generally hesitate to come.<\/p>\n<p>He urged the participants to disseminate the information gathered from the awareness programme to all sections of people in their respective localities.<\/p>\n<p>In her address Smt. Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson of the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), has highlighted the grave issue of human trafficking, describing it as an act of recruiting, transporting, transferring, harboring, or receiving a person through coercion, deception, or abuse of vulnerability for the purpose of exploitation.<\/p>\n<p>She pointed out that minority tribes and communities with little social and legal protection are the most vulnerable to human trafficking. Expressing concern, she noted that the majority of trafficked victims are girls and women, often exploited within a short span of 5-6 years.<\/p>\n<p>The Chairperson also highlighted the emerging trends of sex trafficking in Manipur and the legal challenges associated with it. She emphasized the need for setting up an anti-human trafficking cell to prevent and combat trafficking effectively.<\/p>\n<p>She further stressed that preventing human trafficking in Manipur will require the creation of social security, job avenues, and financial well-being for everyone. By addressing these underlying issues, the state can take a significant step towards reducing the incidence of human trafficking.<\/p>\n<p>The event featured technical sessions that shed light on various aspects of human trafficking. Additional Superintendent of Police, Jiribam Th. Karnajit Singh, MPS, discussed the topic &#8220;Rescue, Investigation, and Prosecuting Human Trafficking.&#8221; He highlighted that human trafficking is the third-largest business in the world, emphasizing the gravity of the issue.<\/p>\n<p>Th. Karnajit Singh noted that while cases of human trafficking are rarely reported in Manipur, many cases go unreported or are settled through monetary negotiations between the parties involved. He also spoke about the challenges faced during investigations, particularly in collecting biological evidence.<\/p>\n<p>L. Romen, Advocate, deliberated on &#8220;Human Trafficking: Legal Frameworks,&#8221; focusing on law enforcement, governance, and victim support. He emphasized that human trafficking is a human issue and that human dignity is not negotiable. He also highlighted the challenges in preventing human trafficking and the need for effective legal frameworks.<\/p>\n<p>Medical Officer, CHC Jiribam Firdosh Bhorot, discussed the critical role healthcare professionals play in identifying and supporting victims of human trafficking. He highlighted the importance of healthcare professionals being aware of the signs of human trafficking and knowing how to respond appropriately.<\/p>\n<p>District Social Welfare Officer, Jiribam W. Hemender, deliberated on &#8220;Prevention and Support Service to Victims of Trafficking.&#8221; He emphasized the need for comprehensive support services for victims of human trafficking, including counseling, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society.<\/p>\n<p>The technical sessions provided a platform for experts to share their knowledge and experiences, highlighting the importance of a multi-faceted approach to prevent and combat human trafficking.<\/p>\n<p>The programme aimed to give awareness to the women and girls of Jiribam so that they are well informed about the trafficking knowledge and combat them easily and strengthen the fight against trafficking by bringing together Anti-Trafficking Units, Social Welfare Department officials, and other civil society organizations. By creating awareness and providing training, the programme sought to empower stakeholders to combat human trafficking effectively.<\/p>\n<p>The programme also aimed to raise awareness about human trafficking, its impact, and the importance of collaborative efforts to prevent and combat this heinous crime. By bringing together stakeholders from various fields, the event sought to foster a collective response to address the issue of human trafficking in the district.<\/p>\n<p>The programme was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jiribam Th. Manoranjan Singh, MCS, Divisional Forest Officer, Elangbam Nirmala Chanu, District Information Officer, Jiribam, Nameirakpam Bidyananda Singh, DCPO, Jiribam H. Ibeyaima Devi, District Veterinary Officer, Jiribam Dr. H.
