In a remarkable display of dedication, Ms. Meidinliu Newmai, an ASHA worker under Tamei Primary Health Centre (PHC), walked nearly 8 kilometres through rough terrain to ensure timely delivery of polio vaccines to children in Atangkhullen (Nenluang) village under Tamei Sub-Division, Tamenglong district.<\/p>\n
Atangkhullen remains one of the most backward villages in Manipur, lacking basic facilities such as proper roads, electricity, and a communication tower. While the road from Tamei Bazar to Atangkhunou has been constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), the 9-kilometre stretch from Atangkhunou to Atangkhullen remains unconstructed, forcing health workers like Newmai to travel on foot.<\/p>\n
Speaking about her experience, Newmai, who has been serving as an ASHA worker since 2007, said the absence of transport facilities and poor connectivity make her work extremely difficult.<\/p>\n
Her efforts come as part of the state-wide Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) campaign launched by the Government of Manipur to reach children aged 0\u20135 years in every corner of the state.<\/p>\n
