In a swift development following widespread condemnation from various Naga student organizations, Manipur Police on Friday arrested five individuals in connection with the brutal assault on four Monsang Naga Students\u2019 Union leaders that took place on the night of October 30, 2025, near Bijoypur along the Kakching Lamkhai\u2013Pallel Road.<\/p>\n
According to a press note issued by Manipur Police on October 31, the arrested persons have been identified as Elangbam Arun Singh<\/strong> (19) of Pallel Thong Wangma, Mayengbam Manglem Singh<\/strong> (22) of Pallel Chandel Lamkhai, Nepram Jitan Singh<\/strong> (18) of Pallel Thong Wangma, Moirangthem Chinglei Meitei<\/strong> (19) of Pallel Thong Wangma, and Moirangthem Linthou Meitei<\/strong> of Pallel Thong Wangma. Two vehicles have also been detained for further verification, while investigations into the case are continuing.<\/p>\n The assault occurred at around 9:30 p.m. on October 30 when four Monsang Naga Students\u2019 leaders\u2013 Gideon Kiirii, President of Sirti Thimjiitam Sourkhe (STS); Wanglar Phillip, General Secretary of STS; Ts. Hollyson, Senior Leader from Liwa Khullen Village; and Th. Moni, also from Liwa Khullen were returning home to Chandel after attending a programme in Kakching Lamkhai. The group reportedly stopped near Bijoypur for a short break when they were suddenly attacked by a group of six to seven unidentified miscreants who arrived on an Activa scooter and an E-rickshaw. The attackers allegedly assaulted the student leaders without any provocation.<\/p>\n During the attack, Gideon Kiirii and Ts. Hollyson sustained serious facial and head injuries and were left bleeding on the spot. The injured leaders were later rushed to PHC Komlathabi around 10:00 p.m. for first aid treatment.<\/p>\n The incident sparked widespread outrage among Naga student bodies, with several organizations including the Sirti Thimjiitam Sourkhe (STS), Naga Students\u2019 Union Chandel (NSUC), Lamkang Kurchuknao Kunpun (LKK), and the All Naga Students\u2019 Association, Manipur (ANSAM) issuing strong condemnation statements on October 31. The STS in its press note described the assault as a life attempt targeting the Monsang community and urged authorities to arrest the culprits at the earliest, warning that further agitation would follow if justice was delayed.<\/p>\n Similarly, the NSUC called the act a heinous and barbaric crime and asserted that an attack on the leaders of a student body is an attack on the entire student community. The union demanded immediate and decisive action from law enforcement agencies to apprehend the culprits. The Lamkang Kurchuknao Kunpun also condemned the attack in the strongest terms, calling it an attempt on their lives and urging the authorities to ensure an impartial investigation and justice for the victims.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the apex body ANSAM issued an unequivocal condemnation, labeling the assault as cowardly, premeditated, and an act that reeks of pure savagery. It further warned that any failure to deliver justice will be construed as complicity and negligence on the part of law enforcement agencies. ANSAM emphasized that the attack was not merely physical but a calculated attempt to intimidate and destabilize the Naga student movement. The Naga students and youths will not be cowed, the statement read, adding that the united Naga front would rise to defend their dignity and right to live without fear.<\/p>\n Following the arrest of the five accused from the Pallel area, police sources confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the assault and whether more individuals were involved in the crime. Authorities have assured that all legal procedures are being followed and that the case will be pursued with utmost seriousness.
