{"id":5225,"date":"2025-11-06T23:36:17","date_gmt":"2025-11-06T18:06:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ichelnewsnetwork.com\/?p=5225"},"modified":"2026-01-19T05:18:34","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T05:18:34","slug":"5225-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ichelnewsnetwork.com\/index.php\/2025\/11\/06\/5225-2\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Field Day on Rice\u2019 Highlights Profitability and Farmer\u2013Scientist Collaboration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>ICAR Research Complex<\/strong> for <strong>NEH Region, Manipur Centre<\/strong>, Lamphelpat, organized a one-day programme on \u201c<strong>Field Day on Rice and Farmer\u2013Scientist Interaction<\/strong>\u201d under the <em><strong>AICRP on Seed (Crops)<\/strong><\/em> at its Lamphelpat campus today, in collaboration with <strong>ICAR-KVKs<\/strong> from Imphal West, Chandel, Churachandpur, Tamenglong, and Ukhrul.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-5227\" src=\"https:\/\/ichelnewsnetwork.com\/Ichel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/dipr-3-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-5228\" src=\"https:\/\/ichelnewsnetwork.com\/Ichel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/dipr-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Shri <em><strong>K. Debadutta Sharma<\/strong><\/em>, Director, Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur, graced the event as Chief Guest and <em>urged<\/em> farmers to focus on <strong>profitability and sustainability<\/strong> rather than mere production. He emphasized the <em>need<\/em> for <strong>value addition<\/strong>, <strong>quality maintenance<\/strong>, and <strong>strong market linkages<\/strong>, adding that close cooperation between farmers and scientists is vital for agricultural growth.<\/p>\n<p>He also announced that a <strong>Central Scheme on Makhana (Thangjing)<\/strong> will soon be launched in Manipur, inviting farmers to participate in the initiative.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ch. Basudha Devi<\/strong>, Head of ICAR RC NEHR Manipur Centre, informed that the centre has developed <strong>12 rice varieties<\/strong> under the <strong>RC Maniphou<\/strong> series, well-suited to Manipur\u2019s changing climate. The latest, <strong>RC Manichakhao-1<\/strong>, is a <em>high-yielding<\/em>, <em>semi-dwarf variety<\/em> with a potential yield of <strong>4.5<\/strong> to <strong>5 tonnes<\/strong> per hectare.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prof. K. Nandini Devi<\/strong>, Dean, College of Agriculture, CAU Imphal, highlighted the importance of <em>scientific planting methods<\/em> and <em>pest management<\/em>, while <strong>Prof. I.
