{"id":5463,"date":"2025-11-13T22:13:42","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T16:43:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ichelnewsnetwork.com\/?p=5463"},"modified":"2026-01-19T05:18:34","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T05:18:34","slug":"central-forest-division-imposes-strict-ban-on-wildlife-hunting-and-trade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ichelnewsnetwork.com\/index.php\/2025\/11\/13\/central-forest-division-imposes-strict-ban-on-wildlife-hunting-and-trade\/","title":{"rendered":"Central Forest Division Imposes Strict Ban on Wildlife Hunting and Trade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Central Forest Division<\/strong>, Government of Manipur, has issued an order imposing a <strong>strict ban<\/strong> on the <strong>hunting, sale, and trade of wildlife and wildlife articles<\/strong> within its jurisdiction in view of the ongoing migratory bird season and to ensure strict enforcement of the <strong>Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The order, signed by <strong>Divisional Forest Officer Vikram Suresh Nadhe<\/strong>, warns that hunting or killing of any wild animal listed under <strong>Schedules I<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>to IV<\/strong> of the <strong>Wildlife (Protection) Act<\/strong> is strictly prohibited under <strong>Section 9<\/strong> of the Act unless special permission is granted by the competent authority.<\/p>\n<p>The notification further states that trade or commerce in <strong><em>wild animals, animal articles, trophies, uncured trophies, or meat derived from scheduled animals<\/em> <\/strong>is <strong><em>completely banned<\/em><\/strong> under <strong>Section 49B<\/strong>. Forest officers have been empowered under <strong>Section 50<\/strong> to <strong><em>search, seize, and arrest<\/em><\/strong> any person found committing offences under the Act without a warrant.<\/p>\n<p>Violators will face <strong>imprisonment<\/strong> for up to <strong>three years<\/strong> or a <strong>fine<\/strong> up to <strong>\u20b925,000,<\/strong> or <strong>both,<\/strong> as per <strong>Section 51.<\/strong> In cases involving Schedule-I animals, offenders may face imprisonment from <strong>three<\/strong> to <strong>seven years<\/strong> and a fine of not less than <strong>\u20b910,000.<\/strong> The order also emphasizes that offences related to <strong>Schedule-I animals<\/strong> are <strong>cognizable<\/strong> and <strong>non-bailable.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Citizens, civil society organisations, wildlife activists, and youth clubs have been urged to cooperate in safeguarding Manipur\u2019s rich biodiversity and wildlife heritage. The public is encouraged to report any instances of wildlife hunting, trade, or possession of wildlife articles to the nearest <strong>Range Forest Office<\/strong>, the <strong>Divisional Forest Officer<\/strong>, or through the <strong>Central Forest Division Control Room<\/strong> at<strong> 6909622773<\/strong>.
