The Manipur Cherry Blossom<\/strong> and Flower Festival 2025<\/strong> commenced today at Motu Tubvii, Mao Gate, as part of the Sangai Festival under the theme \u201cWhere Blossoms Breathe Harmony.\u201d<\/strong> The inaugural programme was graced by T. Pamei<\/strong>, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur, as the chief guest, and Mamoni Doley<\/strong>, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Senapati, as the guest of honour.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the event, Chief Guest T. Pamei highlighted that the Cherry Blossom Festival forms an important part of the Sangai Festival, celebrating the cultural heritage of Manipur, home to more than 35 tribes and communities. He commended the people of Mao for their achievements in education, entrepreneurship, generosity and hospitality.<\/p>\n

He informed that the Government is proposing a floriculture hub in the Mao region under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI), citing its favourable agro-climatic conditions. He urged the public to preserve and promote biodiversity and uphold traditional cultural values.<\/p>\n

Guest of Honour DC Mamoni Doley expressed her delight to be part of the festival, noting that its inclusion in the Sangai Festival elevates the district\u2019s unique identity to national and international platforms. She underscored the district\u2019s tourism potential and called for further exploration to showcase its cultural diversity. She also appreciated the Tourism Department and organisers for their efforts.<\/p>\n

Following the formal programme, the dignitaries inspected 53 stalls set up by SHGs and local entrepreneurs, displaying flowers, vegetables, organic produce, handicrafts, food items and more.<\/p>\n

The event also featured a panel discussion on \u201cWomen in Bloom: Empowering Rural Women through Flower-Based Livelihoods<\/strong>,\u201d moderated by Sub-Deputy Collector Panii Ngaonii. Panelists included Ng. Ngaorai (District Officer, Horticulture & Soil Conservation), H. Veisho (DMM I\/C, MSRLM Senapati), Sarah Nuh and Eshia Daikho.<\/p>\n

A range of activities has been lined up for the festival, including cherry<\/strong> blossom viewing walks<\/strong>, treks to Elai Che Waterfall<\/strong> and Mt. Esii<\/strong>, visits to<\/strong> potato farms<\/strong>, local handicraft<\/strong> and art bazaars<\/strong>, indigenous cuisine stalls<\/strong>, and competitions in crafts<\/strong>, painting<\/strong>, dance<\/strong>, and photography<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The curtain raiser events earlier saw 103 participants join the Cherry Blossom Unity Run from Tadubi to the cherry blossom site on November 18, and 118 trekkers participate in the Mt. Etsii expedition on November 19. Photography and culinary competitions were also held under the themes \u201cChasing the Blossom Breeze\u201d<\/strong> and \u201cCooking the Flavors of Our Past.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The festival will continue till November 23<\/strong> with cultural presentations in collaboration with ICCR North East, traditional games, a traditional chef competition, prize distributions and other performances.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
