Governor of Manipur, Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla<\/strong>, inaugurated the 12th edition<\/strong> of the Manipur Sangai Festival 2025<\/strong> at Hapta Kangjeibung today, marking the return of the State\u2019s premier cultural and tourism festival after a two-year gap. The Governor, accompanied by the First Lady<\/strong>, visited the festival venue before addressing the inaugural function at the Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre (BOAT)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In his address, the Governor described the Sangai Festival as a unifying platform that celebrates Manipur\u2019s cultural vibrancy, entrepreneurial spirit and tourism potential. He noted that the expanded multi-venue format reflects the State\u2019s renewed confidence and commitment to economic revival, benefitting artisans, youth and local enterprises.<\/p>\n

Highlighting the festival\u2019s theme as a \u201cFestival of Oneness<\/strong>,\u201d he emphasised its role in bringing together diverse communities from both the hills and the valley. He underscored Manipur\u2019s pride in being the birthplace of modern polo\u2014originating from Sagol Kangjei\u2014and the efforts underway to protect the Manipuri Pony.<\/p>\n

The Governor also touched upon government initiatives for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)<\/strong>, stressing that their welfare remains a priority<\/strong>. Measures such as phased rehabilitation, financial assistance, prefabricated housing<\/strong> <\/em>and cash-based support systems<\/em><\/strong> were noted as steps toward restoring stability and dignity.<\/p>\n

He urged the people of Manipur to uphold the festival\u2019s spirit of unity and expressed hope for lasting peace. This year\u2019s festival features cultural performances<\/strong>, indigenous sports<\/strong>, adventure activities<\/strong>, literary events<\/strong>, film screenings<\/strong>, tourism<\/strong> familiarisation tours<\/strong>, the Hiyang Tannaba boat race<\/strong>, and the Cherry Blossom Festival<\/strong> at Mao.<\/strong><\/p>\n
