Droupadi Murmu, seeking urgent intervention to restore peace, normalcy and democratic governance in Manipur, which is presently under President\u2019s Rule.<\/p>\n<p>In the memorandum addressed to the President through the Governor of Manipur, MPCC President K. Meghachandra Singh stated that Manipur has been under Article 356 of the Constitution since 13 February 2025 and has remained deeply affected by violence and instability since 3 May 2023. Emphasising the President\u2019s constitutional authority during President\u2019s Rule, the letter noted that the people of Manipur \u201c<em><strong>earnestly expect the high office of the President of India to take urgent and decisive steps to restore peace, harmony, and normalcy<\/strong><\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The MPCC placed five specific demands before the President. These include ensuring the return of all internally displaced persons to their original homes within a Gazette-notified timeframe, safeguarding the fundamental right to freedom of movement across the state, dissolving the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly and holding fresh elections within six months, ensuring peace and normalcy through immediate and effective intervention during President\u2019s Rule, and upholding the rule of law in strict adherence to the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Expressing confidence in the President\u2019s intervention, K. Meghachandra Singh wrote that \u201c<em><strong>the people of Manipur must be protected under the Constitution of India with dignity and justice<\/strong><\/em>,\u201d adding that meaningful protection would be possible only when the demands are fulfilled at the earliest \u201c<em><strong>in the interest of the people of Manipur, the State of Manipur, and the safeguarding of our Constitution<\/strong><\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has welcomed the Hon\u2019ble President on her two-day visit to Manipur beginning 11 December 2025, while appealing for focused attention on the plight of the Kuki-Zo people affected by the ongoing conflict.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued on December 10, the KZC said the President\u2019s presence in the state \u201c<em><strong>carries deep significance and offers hope to many who continue to live with the scars of the ongoing conflict<\/strong><\/em>.\u201d While acknowledging her scheduled engagements in Imphal and Senapati district, the Council expressed hope that the President, \u201c<em><strong>being a tribal herself,<\/strong><\/em>\u201d would also visit Kuki-Zo areas to meet tribal victims who have suffered immensely since the outbreak of violence.<\/p>\n<p>The Kuki-Zo Council stated that it holds President Murmu in high regard \u201c<em><strong>not only as the First Citizen of the nation but also as someone who understands the struggles, dignity, and identity of the tribal communities.<\/strong><\/em>\u201d The statement further said the Council remains hopeful that her visit would pave the way for renewed attention to the concerns of the Kuki-Zo people, who continue to endure displacement, insecurity and targeted violence.<\/p>\n<p>Urging humanitarian intervention, the KZC appealed to the President \u201c<em><strong>to take note of the humanitarian crisis faced by our people and to use her esteemed office to ensure justice, restoration, and lasting peace in the region.<\/strong><\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has submitted a memorandum to the Hon\u2019ble President of India, Smt.
