The Manipur government has reiterated its stand that the updation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) should be undertaken in the state before the Census, with a delegation of MLAs set to visit New Delhi to apprise Central leaders of the issue.<\/p>\n
Addressing the media on Tuesday, government spokesperson and MLA Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh said the state government was taking the concerns surrounding the NRC, Census, demographic imbalance and population changes very seriously.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government has been very serious about the issues pertaining to NRC and the Census, and concerns related to demographic imbalances and changes. The concerns of the people are also ours<\/em>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Singh pointed out that the Manipur Legislative Assembly had passed a resolution on August 5, 2022, urging the implementation of NRC in the state. The resolution was subsequently reaffirmed by the Assembly on March 1, 2024.<\/p>\n He said the issue has remained a long-standing concern of the state government, which has been in correspondence with the Union Home Ministry regarding the matter.<\/p>\n A team of MLAs will now travel to New Delhi to seek guidance from Central leaders and urge the Government of India to take up NRC updation before the Census.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have been pushing for NRC for a long time and have continued our request to the Central leadership. A team of MLAs will be going to Delhi to seek guidance and request them to ensure that NRC is taken up before the Census. It is the responsibility of all of us, and I am sure positive directions will come,<\/em>\u201d Singh said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
