Only 15 Line Staffs For 2200 Square Kilometres: Ukhrul Reels Under Darkness
The Ukhrul power department is functioning with just 1 regular JTA (line staff) and 14 metre readers utilised as line staff to oversee 2200 square kilometres.
Ukhrul district is reeling under darkness due to power outages. This has become a regular affair with every rain and thunderstorm.
The populace of Ukhrul is tired of the poor power supply service. Many of the businesses in the district are adversely affected by the lack of power supply. The situation is aggravated by the lack of internet when there is no power supply. The mobile towers seem to be relying on the MSPDCL’s electricity supply for their operation.
On the other hand, there are less than 15 line staff taking care of 2200 square kilometres. It is learnt that out of the 102 Junior Technician Assistant (JTA) sanctioned posts, there is just 1 JTA (Line Staff) for the whole Ukhrul District. Due to shortage of line staff, metre readers are being utilised as line staff.
We are looking at a situation where the public as well as the department are facing lots of hardship.
The power outage in Ukhrul district could be resolved only when the concerned department installed a 2x10MVA transformer at Hundung Cement Factory Station. This is one of the main demands of the public.
Further, the efficiency of the department could be significantly increased if the sanctioned JAT posts are filled up.
