Punjab Kings needed 191 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru to win the IPL 2025.
Ahmedabad: In the evening match at the Narendra Modi International Stadium, Punjab Kings won the toss and opted to bowl first against Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB, batting first, posted a competitive total of 190 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
RCB’s innings got off to a quick start with opener Phil Salt hitting a six off the first ball from Arshdeep Singh. Salt contributed 16 runs off 9 balls before being caught by Shreyas Iyer off Jamieson in the 1.4th over. Mayank Agarwal then joined the crease, and at the end of the 3rd over, RCB were 30 for 1. Agarwal scored 24 runs off 18 balls before falling to Chahal in the 6.2th over.
At the halfway mark of the 9th over, RCB stood at 80 for 2. Rajat Patidar, who scored 26 off 16 deliveries, was dismissed by Jamieson in the 10.5th over. The crucial wicket of Virat Kohli, who made 43 runs from 35 balls, was taken by Azmatullah Omarzai in the 14.5th over. Omarzai struck again in the 16.5th over, sending Liam Livingstone back to the pavilion for 25 runs off 15 balls.
In the death overs, Vyshak claimed the wicket of Jitesh Sharma (24 off 10) in the 17.4th over. Arshdeep Singh then rattled the lower order, taking three quick wickets in the 19th and 20th overs: Shepherd (17 off 9) in the 19.2nd over, Krunal Pandya (4 off 5) in the 19.4th over, and Bhubaneswar Kumar (1 off 2) off the last ball of the innings.
Punjab Kings will now need to chase down 191 runs to win the match.
