RFDL 2024-25 National Group Stage: Mohun Bagan and Classic FA Secure Thrilling Wins

Mumbai, March 28 – The Reliance Foundation Development League (RFDL) 2024-25 National Group Stage witnessed two intense battles as Mohun Bagan Super Giant edged past Muthoot FA with a 2-1 victory, while Classic FA staged a dramatic comeback to defeat Sreenidi Deccan FC 3-2 at the Reliance Corporate Park in Mumbai.

Mohun Bagan Maintains Winning Streak

After their previous win against Mumbai City FC, Mohun Bagan continued their strong form against Muthoot FA. The Mariners took the lead early when Vian Murgod capitalized on a defensive error. However, Muthoot FA equalized before halftime through a penalty converted by Abith K B.

Early in the second half, Leimapokpam Sibajit Singh restored Mohun Bagan’s lead from the penalty spot. The team held on to their narrow advantage, securing their 100% win record in the competition.

Classic FA Stuns Sreenidi Deccan FC in Injury Time

In another thrilling encounter, Classic FA overcame Sreenidi Deccan FC in a last-gasp 3-2 win. Sreenidi took an early lead in the 10th minute through Levis Zangminlun, but Classic FA responded in the 22nd minute when Bharat Lairenjam equalized.

The match saw late drama as Embokhlang Nongkhlaw put Sreenidi back in front in the 85th minute, but Classic FA refused to give up. In stoppage time, Blessing Keishing capitalized on a goalkeeper error to make it 2-2, and in the dying moments, captain Yendrembam Rohit Singh scored the winner in the 95th minute.

Speaking after the match, Sreenidi Deccan FC Head Coach Alvaro Mota acknowledged his young squad’s learning curve, emphasizing the importance of gaining experience from tough matches.

Other Results and Upcoming Fixtures

Meanwhile, NorthEast United FC secured their first win of the group stage with a 1-0 victory over FC Goa.
