Speaker Th. Satyabrata Singh and MLA Losii Dikho Intervene to Restore NH-2 Connectivity via Kedima Route
Imphal, June 6, 2025: With the immediate intervention and involvement of Hon’ble Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, Shri Th. Satyabrata Singh, and Hon’ble MLA of Mao Assembly Constituency, Shri Losii Dikho, the disrupted lifeline of Manipur—Kohima-Mao National Highway NH-2 via the Kedima Route bordering Nagaland—has been restored. The highway had been cut off due to landslides, floods, and heavy rainfall, severely affecting the transportation of essential commodities into the state.
The restoration was made possible through the intervention and support of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Nagaland, Shri Neiphiu Rio, and Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland and Minister in charge of PWD & National Highways, Shri T.R. Zeliang.
The stretch from Naga Students’ Union Martyrs Park Point to Kedima in Kohima, measuring 8 kilometres, and the entire Mao to Chakhabama road leading to Kohima, spanning 26 kilometres, had developed deformities due to prolonged non-maintenance and lack of repair work. These conditions had disrupted the regular flow of goods and passenger traffic along the critical route.
In response to the situation and under the direction of Hon’ble Speaker Th. Satyabrata Singh, MLA Losii Dikho conducted a survey of alternative roads leading from Mao Gate in Manipur to facilitate the uninterrupted movement of passenger vehicles and six-wheeled heavy goods vehicles carrying food and essential items into the state.
Efforts are ongoing to ensure that the alternate routes remain operational and accessible, safeguarding the supply of essential commodities to Manipur.
