196 Weapons, Ammunitions Surrendered Across Multiple Districts in Manipur
Imphal, March 6, 2025: In a significant development, a total of 196 weapons, including tear gas guns, bombs, firearms, and various types of ammunition, were voluntarily surrendered by the public across several districts of Manipur. The surrendered items were handed over at designated locations in Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Imphal East, Imphal West, Kakching, Jiribam, and Pherzawl districts.
The surrendered items included country-made firearms, grenades, mortar shells, wireless sets, bulletproof jackets, helmets, and various types of ammunition. The highest number of arms were reported from Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts, with a variety of local-made weapons, high-powered mortar shells, and grenades being handed over to police stations and security units.
Breakdown of Surrendered Items
1. Churachandpur District: Several country-made firearms, bombs, and high-powered mortars, along with radio sets and bulletproof jackets, were deposited at various police stations in the district.
2. Bishnupur District: Among the surrendered items were rifles, hand grenades, pistols, magazines, and a large quantity of live and blank ammunition.
3. Thoubal District: Notable recoveries included a 9mm pistol, an 81mm mortar bomb, and multiple bulletproof helmets and vests.
4. Imphal East District: The surrendered arms included rifles, carbine guns, tear gas shells, and a significant quantity of live rounds.
5. Other Districts: Similar recoveries of arms, ammunition, and protective gear were reported from Imphal West, Kakching, Jiribam, and Pherzawl.
Authorities Welcome the Initiative
Security officials and district administrations have welcomed the voluntary surrender, stating that it is a positive step toward restoring peace and stability in the region. Authorities have urged others in possession of illegal weapons to come forward and surrender them to the police to prevent further violence and ensure law and order.
