AMWJU Stands Firm on Boycott of State Government News Amid Gwaltabi Incident Fallout
Imphal, May 29, 2025: The All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU), in a joint meeting with the Executive Committee and Emergency General Body Meeting (EGM), reaffirmed its decision to continue the boycott of Manipur state government news over the unresolved Gwaltabi incident.
The meeting, held at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, deliberated on a letter from the Chief Secretary requesting the withdrawal of the boycott. While acknowledging the government’s concern and willingness to address the matter, the union stated that no substantial action had been taken on the key resolutions previously adopted by the EGM.
AMWJU emphasized two core demands raised during the Emergency General Body Meeting on May 21, 2025:
- 1. Modification of the Inquiry Committee’s terms of reference to include identification of officers responsible for the Gwaltabi incident.
- 2. Redeployment of the security personnel involved in the Gwaltabi operation.
Despite the Chief Secretary being informed of these resolutions on May 22, 2025, the union noted that no concrete steps or official intimation had been received regarding their implementation. Consequently, AMWJU has requested the Chief Secretary to respond afresh on these points so that a broader General Body Meeting may be convened to reconsider the stance.
Until such action is taken, AMWJU confirmed that the boycott of state government news remains in effect, urging all members to strictly adhere to the decision.
