Assam Rifles Organizes Self-Defense Seminar for Women, Reviews Operational Preparedness in Kamjong District
As part of its ongoing efforts to empower communities and enhance security, Assam Rifles organized a seminar on “Empowerment through Self-Defense” at Sorde village, Kamjong District, while also reviewing operational preparedness in Somsai and Tusom.
The self-defense seminar, conducted by Riflewomen of Assam Rifles at the Sorde Community Hall, witnessed the participation of 25 women from the village. The session included practical demonstrations and discussions on essential self-defense techniques, emphasizing their importance in today’s world. The initiative was well received, with local women expressing gratitude for the opportunity to gain confidence and safety awareness.
In a parallel development, Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General Assam Rifles (DGAR), accompanied by Maj Gen Ravroop Singh, YSM, SM, IGAR (S), visited Sector Headquarters at Somsai and the Forward Company Operating Base in Tusom on February 8, 2025. The visit aimed to review operational preparedness and engage with ex-servicemen and Veer Naris.
During the visit, DGAR received a comprehensive briefing from Deputy Inspector General, Brig Sandeep Singh, SM, on operational and administrative aspects. He interacted with troops, ex-servicemen, and Veer Naris, recognizing their contributions. In a special gesture, DGAR presented a Commendation Card to Mr. C. Hopingson, Village Headman of Bungpa Khullen, for his dedication to uplifting underprivileged border communities.
At the Forward Company Operating Base in Tusom, DGAR assessed operational readiness and commended the troops for their commitment to border security and maintaining peace in the region. Assam Rifles reaffirmed its dedication to both community empowerment and national security through such initiatives.
