Centre Team Visits Relief Camps in Churachandpur, Inaugurates Support Facilities for Women and Children
Churachandpur, June 3, 2025 – A high-level team from the Government of India, led by Union Home Secretary Shri Govind Mohan, IAS, and Director of Intelligence Bureau Shri Tapan Kumar Deka, IPS, visited two relief camps in Churachandpur district to assess the living conditions and support mechanisms for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
The team was accompanied by Manipur Chief Secretary Shri PK Singh, Director General of Police Shri Rajiv Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur Shri Dharun Kumar S, and other state and district officials.
Upon their arrival at the 36 Assam Rifles Helipad at Headquarters Veng, the delegation proceeded to the relief centre at Dorcas Veng, New Lamka. There, the Union Home Secretary inaugurated two key initiatives: a Crèche Facility for children and a Women’s Tailoring Program. Both programs aim to empower women and provide a supportive environment for children residing in the camp.
The delegation later visited the relief camp at Sadbhavna Mandap, Tuibong, where Shri Govind Mohan inaugurated a Crèche-cum-Children’s Library. The facility is designed to offer educational and recreational support to children in the camp.
During their visit, officials interacted with camp residents, reviewed infrastructure, inspected relief materials, and evaluated the overall condition of the camps. They listened to the concerns and suggestions of the camp caretakers and assured them of the Centre’s continued support.
In a gesture of encouragement, the team felicitated 15 students from the two camps who passed the HSLC and Higher Secondary Examinations 2025—5 students from Dorcas Veng and 10 from Sadbhavna Mandap. Additionally, one Class I topper and one Class III topper from each camp were honoured for their academic excellence.
Other senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the State Police Department were also part of the visit.
