Imphal, April 21:
A joint delegation under the banner of the Churachandpur Meitei United Committee (CMUC) has submitted a memorandum to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, MLA of Kumbi Assembly Constituency, and the Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur, demanding urgent livelihood support and land allocation for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Churachandpur.
The delegation comprised representatives from Meitei Society Churachandpur, Meitei Youth Organisation, Churachandpur Meitei Ethnic Clash Victim Committee, and Ima Leimarel and Nupi Samaj.
The memorandum called for job assurance and sustainable livelihood opportunities for the displaced families, many of whom have been struggling since the ethnic violence. The CMUC also urged the authorities to allocate 4/4 land at Phougakchao Ikhai, approximately 12 km from Churachandpur, to facilitate the resettlement and rehabilitation of affected Meitei families.
The committee stressed the need for swift action to restore dignity and stability to those displaced and continue to live in uncertain conditions.
