COCOMI Rejects Delhi Peace Meet, Labels It a Political Gimmick
Imphal, April 5: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has sharply criticized the recent meeting held in Delhi between Meetei and Chin-Kuki-Mizo-Zomi-Hmar representatives, calling it a “stage-managed spectacle” aimed at legitimizing what they term a “misleading narrative” by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
In a strongly worded press communiqué, COCOMI stated it deliberately declined participation in the Delhi meeting facilitated by the Ministry of Home Affairs. It accused the Centre of portraying the Manipur crisis as a mere ethnic clash triggered by a court ruling on Scheduled Tribe status, while ignoring deeper issues such as the alleged support to narco-terrorist groups operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement since 2005.
“Without acknowledging the central role of the Government of India in enabling this conflict, any so-called peace initiative is hollow,” the statement said.
COCOMI reiterated its demands, including immediate abrogation of the SoO agreement, crackdown on armed groups, enforcement of law across the state, and access to highways. It further accused the Centre of shielding foreign-backed militant outfits and attempting to manipulate ethnic identities for strategic interests in the Indo-Myanmar frontier.
Calling on citizens to see through the “deceptive game,” COCOMI emphasized its commitment to justice, peace, and preserving Manipur’s territorial integrity.
