Commander of Kuki National Army Thahpi Haokip Shot Dead; United Kuki National Army Claims Responsibility
Thahpi Haokip, also known as Thenkhothang or Thahpi, a commander of the Kuki National Army (KNA), was ambushed and shot dead along with two of his associates by cadres of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred in Mongjang village, located in Churachandpur district. During the attack, a woman—believed to be a local resident—was also fatally shot.
Disturbing videos circulating on social media show the bodies of three men inside a vehicle and a woman lying on the road.
Following the incident, the UKNA issued a press release claiming responsibility for the attack. The statement said that Thahpi and his companions were “punished” by the UKNA. It also alleged that Thahpi had previously killed UKNA PRO Satkhohao, a youth named Tamin Hunter, and approximately 30 others.
