Congress Lauds Armed Forces for ‘Operation Sindoor’, Reaffirms Unwavering Support to Government on National Security
New Delhi, May 7, 2025 — In a strong show of unity and patriotism, top Congress leaders on Wednesday praised the Indian Armed Forces for their bold and precise strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under ‘Operation Sindoor’, and reiterated full support to the government’s actions in safeguarding national security.
The statement followed an emergency meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) chaired by party president Mallikarjun Kharge at 24 Akbar Road. The high-level gathering was convened to discuss the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, which involved targeted airstrikes on terror infrastructure believed to be operated by groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.
“We salute the courage, determination, and patriotism of our brave soldiers,” said Kharge after the meeting. “We stand shoulder to shoulder with them and with the Government in ensuring the safety, unity, and integrity of our nation.”
The Congress chief stressed that ever since the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, the party has consistently backed decisive action against cross-border terrorism. “Unity at all levels is vital today,” he said. “The INC has always placed national interest above everything.”
Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, echoed the sentiment: “Our full support to our forces, best wishes to them, much love to them. Complete support from the Congress party and the Working Committee.”
The Congress party confirmed that both Rahul Gandhi and Kharge will attend the all-party meeting convened by the Government on May 8 to discuss the operation and ongoing national security strategy.
A host of senior Congress leaders including Ajay Maken, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, K C Venugopal, Meira Kumar, Jairam Ramesh, Mukul Wasnik, Anand Sharma, and Gaurav Gogoi were present at the meeting, which reaffirmed the party’s resolve to support national unity in times of crisis.
The Indian Air Force, in a late-night operation, struck multiple high-value terror sites deep inside Pakistan and PoK without breaching Pakistani airspace, according to officials. Sources said that training camps, launch pads, and command centers were destroyed in a series of precision strikes.
Taking to social media earlier in the day, Kharge posted, “We are extremely proud of our Indian Armed Forces. We applaud their resolute resolve and courage. The Indian National Congress has stood firmly behind our soldiers and the Government to act decisively against terrorism.”
Rahul Gandhi, in a brief yet powerful post on X, wrote: “Proud of our Armed Forces. Jai Hind!”
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh reinforced the message of unity: “This is a time for solidarity. From the very first night after the Pahalgam attack, INC has pledged full support to the Government. National interest is supreme.”
As Operation Sindoor sends a strong message to terror outfits and their backers, the political consensus in support of the Armed Forces marks a significant moment of national unity amidst rising security challenges.
