EC Launches Massive Voter Roll Revision Across 12 States and UTs
Over 51 crore voters to be covered under second phase of Special Intensive Revision; final rolls to be published by February 7, 2026.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the launch of the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across 12 States and Union Territories to ensure greater accuracy and transparency in voter lists.
The SIR will be conducted in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, addressing a press conference in New Delhi, said that this phase will cover nearly 51 crore voters. The voter rolls in these 12 regions will be frozen at midnight tonight, marking the start of preparatory activities for the revision.
According to the CEC, printing of enumeration forms and training of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will begin tomorrow. The enumeration process is scheduled to commence on November 4 and will continue for a month. The draft rolls are expected to be published on December 9, followed by the final electoral rolls on February 7, 2026.
Highlighting the success of the first phase of the SIR, Mr. Kumar noted that the Commission had received zero appeals, indicating the efficiency and transparency of the exercise. He also stated that BLOs would distribute unique enumeration forms to all existing voters during the process.
Clarifying documentation requirements, the CEC said that voters whose names appeared in the 2003 electoral roll would not need to provide any additional documents. Similarly, individuals whose parents’ names are included in the 2003 list would also be exempted from submitting extra proof of identity.
