FAKE CLAIM EXPOSED: BJP Minority Morcha President Shares Misleading Post on Facebook Claiming Amit Shah Spoke with N. Biren Singh

Imphal | June 1, 2025 – A Facebook post by Asker Ali MKM, President of the BJP Minority Morcha in Manipur, is drawing criticism for spreading misinformation. In his post, Ali claimed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with “Chief Minister N. Biren Singh” regarding the ongoing heavy rainfall crisis in the Northeast. However, the original tweet from Amit Shah contradicts this claim.

In Amit Shah’s verified tweet posted at on June 1, the Home Minister clearly stated that he had spoken with the Chief Ministers of Assam, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and the Governor of Manipur—not N. Biren Singh. The factual tweet made no mention of N. Biren Singh, who resigned as Chief Minister in February 2025, after which President’s Rule was imposed in the state due to the worsening law and order situation.

Misleading Political Messaging?

The Facebook post by Asker Ali claimed:

“After talk with Hon’ble Sir Shri N. Biren Singh.”

However, Amit Shah had no official conversation with N. Biren Singh on this matter, as he holds no official position currently. The state remains under President’s Rule, with governance temporarily overseen by the Governor of Manipur.

Political Maneuvering in Manipur

This misleading post comes at a time when political activity is heating up in Manipur. On May 30, all BJP MLAs—excluding N. Biren Singh—met at the residence of Th. Bishwajit Singh. A group of MLAs has staked claim to form a popular government, asserting that they have the support of 44 MLAs, well above the 31-seat majority required to form a government in the 60-member Manipur Legislative Assembly.

Political analysts believe the timing of the fake claim may be an attempt to influence public perception or suggest relevance of N. Biren Singh in the state’s ongoing political transition.
