Flood and Landslide Worsen in Manipur: Over 56,000 Affected, Massive Damage Reported
Imphal, June 2, 2025: Manipur is reeling under the impact of continued moderate rainfall as floods and landslides ravage several parts of the state. According to the latest official report released at 7:30 PM on June 2 by the Directorate of Relief and Disaster Management, the total number of affected people has risen to 56,516, with 174 villages impacted across the state.
In the past 24 hours alone, 36,705 new individuals have been affected by the deluge. The total count of houses damaged has surged to 10,477, while 2,913 persons have been evacuated to safety.
So far, four people have been injured and one person remains missing. Fortunately, no human fatalities or animal deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, though the overall animal death toll remains at 64.
Relief efforts have been intensified with the establishment of 57 relief camps, 53 of which are now operational. Distribution of essential materials and medical support is underway, with four medical relief camps set up. The affected crop area has drastically expanded to 64.31 hectares, significantly impacting the state’s agrarian economy.
Infrastructure damage is also increasing, with 48 instances recorded, alongside a total of 93 landslide events, 46 of which occurred in the last 24 hours.
Central and State Support Mobilized
In response to the crisis, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed, and assistance from the Air Force, Navy, and Army has been extended. State forces including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and State Police/Fire Services have also been actively engaged in rescue and relief operations. Boats have been deployed in inundated areas to aid evacuation and supply distribution.
The government is continuing to monitor the situation and coordinate response efforts across the affected regions. Citizens are advised to remain alert and follow safety advisories issued by local authorities.
