Former Manipur CM Biren Condemns Arson Attack on BJP Minority Morcha Leader’s Home
Imphal, April 7:
Former Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, has strongly condemned the violent attack on the residence of BJP Minority Morcha State President Md Asker Ali. The house was reportedly set ablaze by unknown miscreants on the occasion of BJP’s 46th Foundation Day.
In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Biren Singh expressed his outrage, stating that Asker Ali’s only ‘offence’ was his vocal support for the controversial WAQF (Amendment) Bill 2025 — a bill introduced by the BJP itself. Singh described the attack as “an assault on democracy, free expression, and political conviction.”
“This wasn’t just an attack on a person; it was an attack on the principles of democracy,” Biren Singh wrote. He urged law enforcement authorities to take swift and decisive action against those responsible, calling the act “despicable” and “cowardly.”
Biren Singh also reaffirmed his solidarity with Asker Ali, praising his courage for standing firm in support of the WAQF Bill despite rising tensions in the state.
The incident has sparked political and communal concerns, especially amid growing debate over the implications of the WAQF (Amendment) Bill 2025.
