Fresh Elections Only Path to Stability in Manipur”: Congress Leader Blasts BJP

Congress national spokesperson Dr. Shama Mohammed launched a scathing attack on the BJP on Thursday, accusing the party of prioritizing power over peace in the strife-torn state of Manipur.

Referring to the prolonged ethnic violence and political instability in the region, Dr. Mohammed stated:

For two years, the BJP let Manipur burn, and their CM didn’t bother to resign. It was only under the pressure of the Congress-led No Confidence Motion that he stepped down — and yet, even under President’s Rule, peace has not returned to Manipur.

She further added that the BJP’s renewed push for government formation, despite the ongoing turmoil, reflects a disregard for democratic accountability.

Now, the BJP is once again eyeing government formation, when fresh Assembly elections appear to be the only path to restoring stability, Dr. Mohammed said.

“For the BJP, power matters more than peace”.

Manipur has been under President’s Rule since early this year, following years long of ethnic clashes and a political crisis that culminated in the Chief Minister’s resignation.
