Manipur Governor Calls for Unity and Patriotism at 150 Years of Vande Mataram Celebration
Governor of Manipur, Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, attended the commemoration of 150 years of Vande Mataram held at the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), Palace Compound, Imphal. The event was attended by several MLAs, the Chief Secretary, senior officials, and distinguished guests.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that Vande Mataram, composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1875, is more than just a song — it is a timeless symbol of love and devotion to the motherland. He recalled its pivotal role during India’s freedom movement, inspiring unity and awakening the spirit of nationalism across the nation.
He highlighted that the Constituent Assembly’s adoption of Vande Mataram as the national song in 1950 was a recognition of its profound contribution in shaping the soul of India. The Governor further reflected that even after 150 years, its message continues to bind the people of India beyond region, language, and faith.
Emphasizing Manipur’s enduring spirit of patriotism and sacrifice, Shri Bhalla said that the courage and resilience of the people of the state embody the essence of Vande Mataram. He commended the performances by Shri Shri Balmukunda Dev Music College, Government Dance College, and Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy for beautifully portraying the patriotic fervour of the song.
Appreciating the Department of Art & Culture for organizing the commemorative event, the Governor urged citizens to live by the ideals of Vande Mataram and dedicate themselves to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 — a developed, united, and inclusive India.
