Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla Leads Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Celebration in Imphal
Governor of Manipur, Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, today led the state-level observance of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground, Imphal.
The Governor inspected the parade and took the salute at a grand march-past presented by 13 contingents, commanded by Pramesh Arambam, MPS, Commandant of the 4th Indian Reserve Battalion. He also administered the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Pledge, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to unity and integrity.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Bhalla reflected on the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, describing him as the Iron Man of India whose leadership and vision laid the foundation for a united and sovereign nation. He remarked that the observance of National Unity Day serves as a reminder of Patel’s remarkable role in integrating more than 500 princely states into one Republic.
The Governor said the Statue of Unity stands as a symbol of India’s strength, integrity, and resilience. He urged citizens, particularly the people of Manipur, to uphold the spirit of unity through collective effort, harmony, and mutual respect.
Highlighting Manipur’s rich diversity, Shri Bhalla stated that the state’s strength lies in its shared traditions and cultural harmony – from the women of Ima Keithel to the farmers, artisans, and youth across the hills and valleys. He emphasized that programmes like the Manipur State Rural Livelihood Mission, Skill Development initiatives, and women empowerment schemes are bridging social divides and promoting inclusive growth.
The Governor underscored that “true unity is built not merely on geographical integrity but on emotional integrity– the bond of mutual respect and shared purpose.”

The ceremony witnessed participation from contingents of the Army, Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF, Combined Manipur Rifles, various IRB units, Civil Police (Imphal West and East), as well as NCC cadets. A cultural highlight of the event was a choreographed performance titled “Akhoigi Apunba Saktam” (Our Collective Identity) by students of the Government Dance College, celebrating the spirit of unity and cultural harmony.
