GOVERNOR, DoNER MINISTER CO-CHAIR HLTF MEETING ON SPORTS PROMOTION IN NORTH-EAST

Governor of Manipur, Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, and Union Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, on Wednesday co-chaired the 3rd and final meeting of the High-Level Task Force (HLTF) on Promotion of Sports in the North Eastern Region through video conferencing.

Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Smt. Raksha Nikhil Khadse; Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs, Shri Hariranjan Rao; Sports Ministers of Meghalaya and Mizoram; the Chief Secretary of Manipur; and senior officials from DoNER and other North-Eastern States also participated in the meeting.

The HLTF reviewed the progress of ongoing initiatives and discussed a coordinated framework to strengthen talent pathways and high-performance systems across the region. Key issues deliberated included scientific coaching methods, competition structures, last-mile sports infrastructure, and the setting up of high-performance centres and academies.

Union DoNER Minister Shri Scindia highlighted the “One Sport Discipline – One State” strategy as a crucial approach for structured, focused investment in sports development. He urged States to refine their chosen disciplines and submit proposals aligned with their strengths and long-term potential.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmed commitment to elevating the sports ecosystem of the North-East through coordinated planning, evidence-based strategies and strengthened Centre–State collaboration.
