Governor Inaugurates 12th Manipur Sangai Festival at Hapta Kangjeibung
Governor of Manipur, Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, inaugurated the 12th edition of the Manipur Sangai Festival 2025 at Hapta Kangjeibung today, marking the return of the State’s premier cultural and tourism festival after a two-year gap. The Governor, accompanied by the First Lady, visited the festival venue before addressing the inaugural function at the Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre (BOAT).

In his address, the Governor described the Sangai Festival as a unifying platform that celebrates Manipur’s cultural vibrancy, entrepreneurial spirit and tourism potential. He noted that the expanded multi-venue format reflects the State’s renewed confidence and commitment to economic revival, benefitting artisans, youth and local enterprises.

Highlighting the festival’s theme as a “Festival of Oneness,” he emphasised its role in bringing together diverse communities from both the hills and the valley. He underscored Manipur’s pride in being the birthplace of modern polo—originating from Sagol Kangjei—and the efforts underway to protect the Manipuri Pony.
The Governor also touched upon government initiatives for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), stressing that their welfare remains a priority. Measures such as phased rehabilitation, financial assistance, prefabricated housing and cash-based support systems were noted as steps toward restoring stability and dignity.

He urged the people of Manipur to uphold the festival’s spirit of unity and expressed hope for lasting peace. This year’s festival features cultural performances, indigenous sports, adventure activities, literary events, film screenings, tourism familiarisation tours, the Hiyang Tannaba boat race, and the Cherry Blossom Festival at Mao.
The event was attended by MLAs Th. Biswajit Singh and Th. Basanta Kumar, the Chief Secretary, Security Advisor, DGP, Advocate General, senior government officials and members of the public.
