Governor Leads State-Level World TB Day Observation in Manipur
Imphal, March 27, 2025:
Manipur observed the 44th World Tuberculosis (TB) Day with a state-level function held at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, Imphal. Governor Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, emphasizing the state’s commitment to eliminating TB by 2025 under the national “TB-Mukt Bharat” initiative.
The event, themed “Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver,” featured a range of activities, including the distribution of appreciation certificates, food baskets by Nikshay Mitras, Kayakalp Awards, and prizes for winners of a TB-themed painting competition. Certificates of Proficiency were also awarded to the Intermediate Reference Laboratory (IRL).
A short film on TB elimination and a powerful testimonial from a TB survivor underscored the importance of early diagnosis and consistent treatment.
In his address, Governor Bhalla highlighted the severe impact of TB on communities across India and reiterated the state’s resolve to meet the 2025 TB elimination target set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He praised the successful implementation of the 100-Day TB Elimination Campaign launched on December 7, 2024, which screened around 1 lakh individuals across six districts and identified over 400 new TB cases. Mobile diagnostic vehicles, or ‘Nikshay Vahans’, played a key role in reaching remote areas.
The Governor also acknowledged the contributions of Nikshay Mitras—individuals and organisations providing nutritional and emotional support to TB patients—and applauded healthcare workers and support staff for their dedication.
Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Health), Shri Sumant Singh, also spoke on the occasion, commending Manipur’s national-level performance in the campaign. He highlighted the introduction of advanced testing technologies like Nucleic Acid Amplification Testing (NAAT), which offer highly sensitive and specific TB detection. Singh stressed that with continued community participation, the goal of a TB-free Manipur is within reach.
The event concluded with a renewed pledge to eliminate TB and ensure a healthier future for generations to come.
