Governor of Manipur Extends Deadline for Voluntary Surrender of Illegal Arms
The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, has extended the deadline for the voluntary surrender of looted and illegally held arms and ammunition until 4 PM on 6th March 2025. This decision comes in response to requests from both valley and hill areas following the initial deadline, which expired after seven days of the Governor’s appeal on 20th February 2025.
The Governor had previously urged individuals, particularly the youth, to surrender weapons at the nearest police station, outpost, or security forces camp. The appeal has already seen a positive response, but authorities have now granted one final opportunity to those who are still in possession of illegal arms.
No Punitive Action for Voluntary Surrender
During this extended period, no legal action will be taken against those who surrender their weapons. However, strict legal measures will be enforced against anyone found in possession of illegal arms after the deadline. The Governor also emphasized that extensive security operations will be conducted across the state following the closure of this final window for voluntary surrender.
Call for Peace and Security
The Governor urged all individuals to seize this last opportunity to contribute towards peace, communal harmony, and the security of society. He reiterated that those who choose to surrender weapons within the deadline need not fear prosecution.
For any clarifications, individuals can contact their nearest police station or the police control room at 9485280419.
Final Chance to Surrender Illegal Arms
The Governor’s appeal underscores the government’s commitment to restoring law and order in Manipur. As the extended deadline approaches, authorities remain hopeful that more individuals will step forward in the interest of peace and stability.
