History Club of D.M. College of Arts Organizes Lecture Programme on “History for Tomorrow”
The History Club of D.M. College of Arts, Imphal, hosted a Lecture Programme on the theme “History for Tomorrow” at the college on 13th January 2025. The event was graced by prominent figures, including Dr. Diller Rahman, Head of the Department of History (PG), Dhanamanjuri University; Samuel Duidang, Head of the Department of History, D.M. College of Arts; Dina Serto, Head of the Department of History, G.P. Women’s College; and Dr. Ch. Shilleramani, former Principal of D.M. College of Arts.
Renowned cultural curator and researcher Mutua Bahadur and Dr. S. Sujata, Assistant Archaeologist of Manipur State Archaeology, were the key resource persons at the programme.
Mutua Bahadur delivered an insightful lecture on the topic “Manipuri Diaspora in Manipur,” shedding light on the historical settlement of Manipuris in Myanmar (formerly Burma) and their rich sociocultural traditions. His presentation, supported by photographs and videos from his extensive travels, captivated the audience.
Dr. S. Sujata presented on “Archaeological Research in Manipur,” tracing the history of archaeological studies in the state. Her lecture highlighted significant archaeological sites, their excavations, and findings through an engaging PowerPoint presentation.
The programme was attended by faculty members from colleges under Dhanamanjuri University, academicians, researchers, and students.
The History Club, formed on 11 December 2024, aims to foster historical exploration and scholarship by engaging historians, researchers, and academicians from within and beyond the University. The Club plans to organize regular academic activities such as lectures, seminars, exhibitions, heritage walks, and publications to promote history among students and scholars.
The Convenor of the event, S. Debiarani Chanu, expressed optimism about the Club’s future activities and its role in enhancing historical awareness and knowledge.
