History Club of D.M. College of Arts Releases Annual Report, Hosts Lecture on Inclusive History and Syllabus Reform

The History Club of D.M. College of Arts, Imphal, released its Annual Report 2024–25 today at a special function held at the college campus. The report, published just seven months after the Club’s formation, documents the Club’s activities and features a special section on the history of D.M. College, including rare photographs of its founding members.

The program was attended by a host of dignitaries including Prof. S. Lanchenba Meetei, Principal of D.M. College of Arts; Retd. Prof. N. Joykumar; Dr. Ch. Shellaramani ;Dr. R.K. Nimai Singh, IAS (Retd.); A. Subash Singh, IAS (Addl. Secretary, DP/Home & Director, Institutional Finance); and Samuel Duidang, HoD, History Department.

A lecture program was also held as part of the event. Dr. R.K. Nimai Singh delivered a lecture on “The Idea of Manipur”, stressing the importance of shared histories and the role of dialogue in resolving the present crisis. Prof. N. Joykumar emphasized the need for an inclusive and critically grounded retelling of Manipur’s past.

Flash Flood Alert: Villages Along Khuga River Submerged in Churachandpur

Continuous heavy rains have caused the Khuga River to overflow, breaching the danger mark and submerging villages along its banks. Nengthawng Veng, Kerith Veng, and Khanthang Veng under TD Block, Churachandpur Sub-division, are severely affected.

Several homes are inundated, displacing residents, while large stretches of agricultural land are damaged. The Inter Village Road (IVR) connecting the villages to Churachandpur town is completely submerged and at high risk of erosion, leaving the area cut off.

Authorities have been alerted as the situation remains critical.

Six Arambai Tengol Members Arrested for Assaulting Police During Bandh in Bishnupur

Manipur Police on Tuesday arrested six members of the Arambai Tengol in connection with the physical assault on a police officer and personnel during a bandh in Bishnupur district on June 9, 2025. The arrests were made following an intensive investigation into the incident that disrupted law and order in the district.

According to police sources, the arrested individuals were involved in the violent attack on security personnel on duty. The accused have been identified as:

1. Laishram Sanahal Singh @ Sana (26), resident of Govindagram Awang Leikai, Imphal West

2. Laishram Rishikanta Singh (20), resident of Govindagram Awang Leikai, Imphal West

3. Laishram Premchand @ Kandrang (18), resident of Govindagram Awang Leikai, Imphal West

4. Kangabam Nongdamba Singh (23), resident of Terakhongsangbi Ward No. 2, Bishnupur

5. Sarangthem Rabichandra @ Rabi (28), resident of Kangmong Maisnam Leikai, Imphal West

6. Yumnam Jaswant Singh (22), resident of Lourembam Maning Leikai, Bishnupur

Police officials stated that the arrests were made in accordance with legal procedures and further investigation is underway to identify additional individuals involved in the assault.

Felicitated for Excellence: Areebuddin Phundreimayum Honoured for Academic Achievements

A felicitation ceremony was held today in honour of Areebuddin Phundreimayum for his remarkable academic achievements and dedication. The event, jointly organised by the Friends Colony Welfare Association, Mantripukhri (FCWA), and Chingmeirong Nongpok Kontha Ahallup Welfare Association (CKWA), Mantripukhri, took place at Friends Colony.

Areebuddin was felicitated for securing admission to the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in 2025. He achieved an impressive OBC-NCL Rank of 4017 in JEE Advanced 2025 and scored a 98.26 percentile in JEE Mains 2025. In addition to his IIT success, he also cleared the NDA written examination in 2024, further showcasing his academic excellence and discipline.

The event was attended by community leaders, well-wishers, teachers, and residents of the area who lauded Areebuddin’s achievements and encouraged other students to draw inspiration from his journey.
