Manipur Achieves Remarkable Outreach on Day 4 of Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan Amidst Adverse Weather
Imphal, June 3, 2025: Despite relentless rainfall and emerging flood threats, the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA-2025) marked a significant achievement on its fourth day by successfully reaching all 20 targeted villages across Manipur. Over 4,000 farmers participated in the campaign, overcoming harsh weather and logistical hurdles.
The campaign, launched nationwide on May 29 ahead of the Kharif season, aims to revolutionize Indian agriculture through scientific interventions and climate-smart practices. In Manipur, continuous rains led to landslides, blocked critical highways like NH-37, and triggered urban flooding in districts including Imphal, Kakching, and Thoubal. Major rivers also approached danger levels.
Undeterred, the VKSA teams adapted swiftly by modifying travel routes and deploying mobile units capable of navigating waterlogged and landslide-affected regions. Agricultural scientists held knowledge sessions in community halls and temporary shelters, focusing on flood-resilient agricultural methods. Key topics included composite fish culture, mushroom cultivation, and the newly introduced fish parasite vaccine “CIFA Argu VAX–I”.
The campaign also promoted central and state government agricultural schemes such as Soil Health Cards, solar farming incentives, and disaster compensation measures. More than 30 interactive dialogues between scientists and farmers were held to address localized agricultural challenges.
Dr. Ch. Basudha Devi, State Nodal Officer and Head of Regional Centre (HORC) at ICAR Manipur Centre, emphasized the campaign’s role in fast-tracking climate-resilient agricultural practices across the state.
Even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued red alerts, district-level task forces ensured the campaign ran without delays, focusing especially on flood-prone areas. The campaign, which continues until June 12, will now shift focus to flood recovery efforts and preparing farmers for the monsoon season. Progress is being closely monitored through Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in all districts.
