Manipur Congress President Slams BJP-Led MLAs for Bypassing Governor in Govt Formation
Imphal | April 30, 2025 — Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Shri Keisham Meghachandra Singh has strongly criticized 21 MLAs from the BJP and its allies—NPP, NPF, and JD(U)—for bypassing the constitutional route in their attempt to form a government in the state currently under President’s Rule.
The MLAs, in a letter dated April 10 and received by the Prime Minister’s Office and the Union Home Ministry on April 29, had urged the central leadership to install a popular government in the state. However, they did not approach the Governor of Manipur, the constitutionally designated authority to decide on government formation.
Shri Meghachandra accused the MLAs of political insincerity and questioned their seriousness about restoring democratic governance in Manipur.
“These legislators should have gone to the Raj Bhavan in Imphal to stake their claim. Instead, they chose to write to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister about forming a government,” he stated.
He emphasized that the political will of the people of Manipur must not be reduced to a matter of convenience for ruling parties.
“The mandate of the people cannot be played for political convenience. The people of Manipur want a change. They want a new alternative,” he said, underscoring the Congress party’s call for a democratic revival rooted in public aspiration.
Congress has reiterated its commitment to respecting the democratic process and has hinted at preparing to offer itself as a true alternative to the current political dispensation.
