Manipur Fencers Aim for Glory at 38th National Games in Uttarakhand
With high hopes of securing medals, Manipur’s fencing team is ready to deliver its best at the upcoming 38th National Games 2025 in Uttarakhand, scheduled from January 28 to February 14. The fencing events will take place in Haldwani from February 9 to 13.
The Manipur contingent comprises 21 fencers, including nine women, and six officials. Speaking to the MOA Media team, team manager W. Romendrajit Singh expressed confidence in the team’s preparation. “Our practice sessions are underway at the Fencing Hall, Khuman Lampak. Twelve male and nine female fencers have qualified for the Games,” he stated.
A residential coaching camp will be conducted from January 19 to February 3 to sharpen the team’s skills further. “We are prioritizing every effort to ensure maximum medal wins. The presence of twelve junior international-level fencers boosts team morale,” Singh added.
The men’s qualifiers include L. Tomba, H. Rabikumar Singh, L. Abhinash Meitei, and Kh. Rajiv in Men’s Foil; K. Dronel, N. Santosh Singh, E. Dinikumar, and L. Thoungamba Khuman in Men’s Epee; and Moramba Laishram, S. Biju Meitei, Mexi Thokchom, and S. Chingkheinganba in Men’s Sabre.
In the women’s category, Ph. Anita Chanu, W. Sonia Devi, Daiyarani Ningthoujam, and N. Mina Devi will compete in Women’s Foil, while M. Stella, L. Bidyabati, S. Nelcyrose, and S. Chingkheinganbi qualified in Women’s Epee. L. Abi will represent Manipur in Women’s Sabre, though the Women’s Sabre team did not qualify.
The team’s officials include coaches A. Shaolin Meetei, Chingsomba N., O. Sovaraj Singh, Rk. Rabika Devi, and H. Bichu Singh, with W. Romendrajit Singh serving as the manager.
In the previous edition of the National Games in Goa, Manipur’s fencing team secured seven medals, including one gold, one silver, and five bronze. The team is now determined to surpass its past performance in the 2025 event.
