Manipur Police Assures Public of Safety Amid Alleged Threats Ahead of Shirui Festival
Imphal, May 19: In light of recent social media threats allegedly issued by unknown individuals and organizations claiming to represent the Kuki community, Manipur Police has reassured the public that all necessary security arrangements are in place to ensure the safe conduct of the Shirui Festival in Ukhrul.
According to the police statement, “Some unknown individual and organisation allegedly of Kuki community have issued threat messages to the Meitei, who are planning to visit Shirui Festival in Ukhrul today mostly in various social media platforms.”
Police have confirmed that the threats are being taken seriously. “Any such threats are taken seriously and inquired into promptly. So far these organisation are found to be non existent,” the statement clarified.
It was further noted that “a number of credible Kuki organisation has also come out in the past disassociating themselves from such unknown organisations.”
In response to the incident, a criminal case has been registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station. “A criminal case has been registered at Cyber Crime PS in this regard and all out effort shall be made to arrest them,” the police added.
Assuring the public of a safe environment, the police said, “All precautionary security measures are in place to ensure security for movement of people attending Shirui Festival. Regular security review is being taken and senior officers deployed to supervise the security arrangement.”
The public has been urged to cooperate with authorities, with the statement concluding, “Public are requested to co operate in this regard.”
