Manipur Police Refutes Claims Against Ukhrul SP, Urges Media to Verify Facts
The Manipur Police have strongly refuted recent media reports alleging that the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Ukhrul district was aiding Kuki militants. These reports, based on a press release purportedly issued by the NSCN-IM, have been described by the police as “blatantly false and misleading.”
According to an official statement, the Ukhrul District Police clarified that their actions were in compliance with requests from the Border Security Force (BSF) and Kangpokpi District Police, as well as directives from the Police Headquarters.
The police detailed two specific instances where security support was provided:
-
On December 12, 2024, police guides were assigned to a BSF team traveling to Molham Kuki Village
-
On December 19, 2024, security escorts were provided to trucks carrying laborers and construction materials for building security barracks in Molham Kuki Village, where BSF companies would be stationed.
The police emphasized that these activities were legitimate security operations aimed at supporting peacekeeping and maintaining law and order.
“Publishing unverified information not only misleads the public but also tarnishes the image of the Ukhrul District Police and the reputation of the SP,” the statement read.
The Manipur Police appealed to all media outlets and individuals to exercise caution and verify facts before disseminating information, especially during these sensitive times when concerted efforts are being made to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
