Manipur Speaker’s Tribunal Reserves Judgment on Disqualification of Five JD(U) MLAs; NPP MLAs’ Case to be Heard on Feb 12
Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker’s Tribunal has reserved its judgment on the final hearing of the plea seeking the disqualification of five Janata Dal (United) MLAs—Khumukcham Joykisan Singh, Ngursanglur Sanate, Muhammad Achab Uddin, Letpao M. Khaute, and Thangjam Arunkumar. The outcome remains uncertain, and the tribunal’s final verdict will determine the political fate of these legislators.
Meanwhile, the tribunal has also scheduled the hearing for the disqualification case against four National People’s Party (NPP) MLAs—Mayanglambam Rameshwar Singh, Thongam Shanti Singh, Irengbam Nalini Devi, and Janghemlung Panmei—on February 12. Welcoming this move, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President K. Meghachandra stated, “We all must respect the Constitution of India. I welcome the disqualification petitions filed by Shri Hareshwar Goshwami, Vice President of Manipur PCC, against the four defected NPP MLAs. I hope justice will be delivered expeditiously under the Tenth Schedule to the Constitution.”
Amid these developments, political tensions in Manipur continue to escalate. The Congress party is reportedly preparing to move a No-Confidence Motion against the BJP-led government. In a strong statement, Meghachandra remarked, “The Brahmastra missile will surely hit one of the Double Engine!”
With crucial decisions pending at the Speaker’s Tribunal and the possibility of a No-Confidence Motion, Manipur’s political fate remains volatile, with key developments expected in the coming days.
