Manipuri Folk Princess Mangka Honored with Women’s Achiever Award 2025 in Guwahati
Guwahati, Assam, March 25, 2025 – Mangka Mayanglambam, a celebrated folk singer and educator from Manipur, fondly known as the “Manipuri Folk Princess,” has been awarded the prestigious Women’s Achiever Award 2025 by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya. The accolade was presented during the Annual Award Ceremony organized by FLO Northeast, the women’s wing of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), on March 21 at the Vivanta Hotel in Guwahati.
The event, which celebrated the remarkable contributions of women across various fields, highlighted Mangka’s unwavering dedication to preserving and promoting traditional Manipuri art and culture through her music. Beyond her performances, Mangka has also been recognized for her role as an educator, mentoring hundreds of students and nurturing the next generation of artists in the region. Her presence at the ceremony inspired attendees, serving as a powerful reminder of the impact of cultural preservation and education.
FLO Northeast, a key chapter of FICCI’s women’s wing, has been a driving force in empowering women for over 40 years. With 20 chapters across India, the organization fosters entrepreneurship and professional excellence through initiatives like workshops, seminars, and training programs. These efforts aim to provide women—from grassroots artisans to business professionals—with the tools to contribute to inclusive economic growth and societal development.
The ceremony also honored other notable women, including Moirangthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur for her entrepreneurial achievements, Minakshi Chetia from Assam for her work as a social worker under the ASHA program, and Meenakshi Das from Assam for her inspiring journey as a biker. Additionally, the FLO Trailblazer Awards 2025 recognized figures like Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain for her sporting achievements and Barsha Rani, who was named the Pride of Assam.
Governor Acharya, in his address, emphasized the critical role of women in achieving India’s Sustainable Development Goals, citing the Northeast’s rich pool of talent as exemplified by icons like Lovlina Borgohain, Mary Kom, Hima Das, and conservationist Purnima Devi Barman. He urged the awardees to continue driving positive change, reinforcing the importance of women’s leadership in shaping a more inclusive future.
